WorldSkills UK is a set of dynamic skills competitions for both young people and adults. Designed by industry experts they are run every year across the UK in over 70 skills areas from Aeronautical Engineering and Floristry to Bricklaying and Landscape Gardening.

Some of the competitions can lead to the International WorldSkills competition. The next WorldSkills competition takes place in Calgary, Canada later this year, before it comes to London in 2011.

If you know someone who is working towards or has a vocational qualification and would enjoy the challenge, then this will be for them!

Benefits of competing

Competing in WorldSkills competitions will:

inject dynamism and excitement into training activities
spur trainees and apprentices to show what they can do
promote your business and sector in a positive light
test, prove and raise the quality of training programmes
develop and retain staff
check on performance and put benchmarks in place

The closing date for registering online for most competitions is the 9th April 2009. Select from the list of competitions on the left of this page or visit www.worldskillsuk.org for more information on how to register.

SkillsCompetition Wales

In an effort to further develop skills competitions within Wales, the Welsh Assembly Government is working in partnership with colleges, sector skills councils, work-based learning providers and employers to organise and run local skills competitions. Called SkillsCompetition Wales, many of these are run to WorldSkills UK criteria and assuming competitors do well enough, could lead through to WorldSkills UK finals. For more information email worldskills@wales.gsi.gov.uk
